Statement of Intent
Dear Constituents:
I am Marge Prendergast. I have announced my intent to run for Mayor of Easthampton. I am asking for your support.
I am running for Mayor because I believe in Easthampton and the importance it holds in Western Massachusetts.
My platform is Easthampton and we stand on solid ground.
Those of you that know me might say that education has been my primary interest. With the involvement of building playgrounds, my term on School committee and Parsons council, I have demonstrated my belief of the next generation’s importance in our community. Or you might believe that my involvement with the business community holds a stronger interest. First, with the Chamber of Commerce, then with my own successful business makes me more vested in the business community.
However, as Mayor my involvement will be focused on Easthampton as a whole. I do not have a “favorite child” (schools, police, fire, downtown, etc…). My vision is the whole city working together for the greater good. The interconnected relationships throughout this city that I have forged are vital to its future growth. I can and will facilitate that growth movement with all willing team players. We have the resources and talent to pull ourselves through the worst of economic times and we will do it as families, as a community, and as a city…
We will do it together.
To accomplish this goal, I bring to the citizens a wide array of experiences and resources:
- Vice president of Emily’s Friends of the Library 4 years
- Easthampton Chambers Chair of Fall Festival for 2 years
- Co-Chair Membership Committee
- Planning and organizing Table Top Expo
- Annual Cottage Street Stations Wine Tasting Benefit
- Member Women’s Business Owners Association & Program Committee Co- Chair 1 year
- Sponsor and Committee member for “Derrills Race” for several years
- Received Hampshire County Business & Professional Women 2003 Award: Woman of Achievement
- Sponsored the Easthampton Girls Volleyball team 2 years
- Wellness Fairs co-sponsor to bring together different approaches to Creating a healthier lifestyle
- President PTO 2 years
- Held open forums for Mayoral Elections with the Chamber
- Many fund raisers
- Co-Facilitator for a Business Grant with the Emily Williston Memorial Library
- President Easthampton Community Association
- Informational Forums for the public with the School Department, The Department of public works, Mayoral and School Committee Candidates
- Chaired Parsons School Playground
- Co-Chaired Maple School Playground
- Organized Easter egg Hunt
- School Committee 1997-2000
- “Easthampton Talk” a Channel 5 Talk Show that showcased local residents and events allowing a forum for their voices to be heard.
- Committee member for the “Thanksgiving Dinner” many years
All of these accomplishments required the abilities to communicate, negotiate, foster teamwork, sustain fiscal responsibility, have a vision of possibilities, and oversee the completion of projects. The range of job opportunities blended with community involvement balanced with family needs explains the flexible career path I was able to achieve.
I invite you to be a participant in “Team Easthampton”, and help our city achieve it’s best. I am committed to winning this campaign and becoming your next Mayor. I need your assistance and resources in achieving this goal and vision. If you can help this happen, please support the campaign. If you have questions, comments, resources, and ideas please email us.
I look forward to working with you and for you.
I will make you proud to be part of “Team Easthampton”.
